Wings

3:57 PM

It feels like these selfie experiences are becoming increasingly a part of my social life. My friend recently invited me to explore the Museum of What's Wings Tour. Although it didn't look as pretty as MODS or Flutter from its website's photos, I still decided to go since it was only $16 and the parking structure is free for the first hour. When I entered, I was disappointed to see that it was literally made up of mostly wings, the type that were popular and innovative a few years ago in boba shops and gentrified hipster neighborhoods. That being said, you can still get some cute photos if you know how to crop or if bright, colorful walls are your thing. I was just hoping for something a little less DIY looking. If you're in Orange County searching for free places to do a wings photo, I'm pretty sure Capputeano Cha and Zero Degrees have them.

Our love is deeper than the oceans of water

Out of all the selfie spaces out there, Museum of Dream Space might be the most popular one in Los Angeles and after visiting it, it might be one of the most well done ones and least cheesy ones. MODS is made up of several rooms, which pretty much copy the infinity room idea that artist Yayoi Kusama came up with. MODS' website calls itself "the first museum mainly exhibiting digital art in the United States." However, after visiting it, it definitely leans more towards the selfie side than the art side. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it though; the rooms are great for pretty Instagram photos and they even have photographers there ready for you. However, it's not art. The only issue is that some of the rooms use lights as their main form of decoration, creating a bright background. Consequently, if your camera focuses on your face, your face shows up but the background becomes too bright, turning all the lights white. If you focus on the lights' colors, then your face goes dark. All of my photos are unedited, so you guys can see what type of photos you can expect out of MODS.

Bet you wanna rip my heart out, bet you wanna skip my calls now

Flutter Experience is probably the latest in a series of pop-up installations in Los Angeles. Unlike the Museum of Ice Cream of the MODS Museum, Flutter attempts to elevate the selfie taking experience to one of high art by having actual artists decorate each room. What drew me to Flutter is that it was created by Rumi Neely's husband and I've been a huge fan of Rumi Neely since I was 14. My overall feelings towards Flutter is that it's interesting and extremely ambitious. What it's attempting to do is reconcile the difference between a selfie station and an actual museum. What it's left with though is being somewhere in-between and I'm not sure if selfie enthusiasts or art connoisseurs will be entirely satisfied. Selfie enthusiasts will be looking for better lighting and might find some of the rooms too odd to get likes, while art connoisseurs will be turned off by the millennials (LIKE ME) who are taking too many photos. If I had a suggestion though, it would be to the art connoisseurs in that I think they should give Flutter a chance, ignore the Instagrammers, and enjoy the experience. I also feel like this is a great way to introduce kids to art because it has so many rooms that encourage play. That being said, I still got some hella cute #ootd photos and there is a decent amount of space to get your photos in.

Roasting Water x Rilakkuma

6:10 PM

If you're in the SoCal area, then you probably know about Roasting Water, the super cutely decorated boba chain that gives out free bottles with each tea. They recently teamed up with Rilakkuma to bring the kawaii character dining experience to the US. And lemme just say - I love it! Everything is so well thought out from the zipper down the backs of the chairs to the galaxy printed tables matching the Rilakkuma murals. They also sell super cute mugs and bottles featuring any character you could thin of - Baymax, Totoro, Hello Kitty, etc.

When I'm With You, I Feel Like I Could Die and That Would Be Alright

5:57 PM

This purse from The Kooples is just too cute. I've been eyeing it on Instagram for awhile and finally went through with it. I love its gold embroidery on black velvet and the price point was pretty good as well. The best part is the way it juxtaposes strict rigidity in its design with whimsical golden bees. I can see me using this purse with outfits both formal and casual.

One Night Only, For Your Eyes Only

6:29 PM

I'll probably be switching this blog over to a lifestyle blog one day just because I'm not nearly narcissistic enough to continuously take enough photos of me in outfits to keep up this blog. It's just awkward taking a photo of yourself by yourself unless you're on vacation. And I don't want to become part of that large population of people, who take photos of themselves all the time. For the most part, I only started taking outfit photos to document particularly creative outfits or really special pieces of clothing that I wanted to show off.

Always Busy Dreaming About Boys

4:34 PM

Visited the new trendy eating spot in Orange County, TRADE, with my friends. Since it was so hot, I wanted to keep things simple in a dress and boots. One thing I love about these sunglasses from Marc Jacobs is how they instantly dress up your outfit and take your look from grungy teenager to high fashion. If you're ever at TRADE, be sure to stop by Krisp Fresh Living for their heavenly iced blueberry macha lattes.

No love, they'll never break the shape we take

This jacquard skirt is everything. I've said it before and I'll say it again - a shiny jacquard/baroque print skirt can make all the difference in your look. They're daring and always attract attention. What I like about this outfit is it has a lot going on with the printed skirt, lace inserts, cutout booties and color-block sunglasses but since they're all in the same color palette, it doesn't feel overwhelming (plus, it's super comfy and good for warm weather).

Some Things Are Long Forgotten

6:44 PM

This skirt is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I love its bold pattern, its glitter factor, and the straight silhouette. Originally, I was going to keep everything else simple, only pairing it with black items, so that the skirt could stand out. However, I was feeling a little bit more daring and wanted to wear something that would hopefully grab TokyoFashion's interest if I were walking along the streets, so I added a key chain I picked up a long time ago in Japan and a jacket cluttered with patches.

Yeah I'm on a Mission, Trying to Get it All Out of My System

5:40 PM

Summer is my least favorite season. It's too hot to layer. It's too hot to go hiking. It's too hot to do anything other than shop and hang out in museums. And it's not like spending time outdoors is fun because I get sun burnt easily, which leads me to why I've never gone to Coachella. I live in fear of spending three days outdoors, burning the whole time while trying to enjoy a few bands. If I were to go to Coachella though, I'd probably just live in my black boots and camisoles.

So daydreamer, run in the dark

6:52 PM

A few months ago, I hit up a The Kooples sample sale and it was high key, the best thing ever. I picked up around $2,500 worth of clothing for 90% off and the best part was, they had the full size range for almost every item there, so it's not like you had to dig to find something nice. This pencil skirt is one of my favorite finds from the day. It has some of the signature piercing details that The Kooples does on a lot of their clothes, but it's not overkill.

I missed your skin when you went east; you clicked your heels and wished for me

9:50 PM

I love frilly, lacy things done in fun and unexpected ways like this Topshop frock I found hanging in the sale section. I also love jewelry with rough gem stones and anything related to outer-space. Consequently, it seemed like a perfect match when I paired this frou frou, high-neck Victorian, cake of a dress with an opalescent stone hanging from a dainty crescent moon gem.
To keep the look from being too sweet and make it more teenage-witch living in Greenwich Village vibes, I slipped on a lacy, black slip dress underneath and paired it with some edgy ankle boots plus a vintage Bally purse with a ladylike chain strap. What added the extra witch vibe though was definitely the astrological necklace and slightly exaggerated blush (which the camera didn't capture well #ugh).
